The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) appointed, on Monday, former international Sami Trabelsi as head coach of the national team.
Trabelsi, an emblematic figure of Tunisian football, takes over the reins of the Carthage Eagles for the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AfCON).
The FTF made this appointment official at a meeting of its executive committee held on Monday, February 10, 2025.
His appointment comes after the “amicable” termination of the contract of Faouzi Benzarti, who was appointed national coach in October 2024.
With his experience and glorious past, Trabelsi is tasked with reinvigorating the national team for the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup qualifying campaign.
The 57-year-old former international defender with over 80 caps between 1994 and 2001 under his belt, had already led the national team from 2011 to 2013.
Under his leadership, Tunisia won the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2011.
In March, he will take charge of the Carthage Eagles for match day five and six of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Malawi.
Tunisia are perched at the top of Group H.
