FIFA on Wednesday announced a record $1 billion prize pool for the 2025 Club World Cup, as well as the creation of a Women’s Club World Cup scheduled for 2028.
With a historic $1 billion prize pool, the 2025 Club World Cup will be held in the United States and will feature 32 teams from around the world.
The African clubs that have qualified include three-time CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly of Egypt (2020/21, 2022/23, 2023/24), 2021/22 CAF Champions League champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, ES Tunis of Tunisia and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
“The Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football, but also a demonstration of solidarity,” Gianni Infantino said in a statement on Wednesday.
Alongside this flagship competition, FIFA announced the creation of the first Women’s Club World Cup, scheduled for 2028.
This tournament will feature 19 clubs, selected based on their performances in the previous two years.
“Women’s football has reached new heights, and now it is time to organise global competitions to showcase the best clubs from around the world,” added the FIFA President.
These initiatives mark a significant turning point in the internationalisation of football and the promotion of women’s teams on the world stage.
