Over 80 shops and wooden structures used largely for accommodation by foreigners and squatters at the Nkrumah Circle were gutted by fire on Wednesday evening.
According to the officials of the Ghana National Fire Service, the fire which started around 5pm was controlled by more than 50 firemen, who promptly moved to the scene of the fire and succeeded in putting out the fire.
Although there was no reported case of deaths, but some of the affected traders said that they lost their goods and wares to the fire and that the residents of the area have been rendered homeless.
One of the affected traders told journalists that he lost over GHS5000 in cash and goods worth thousands of Cedi to the fire that gutted several shops and homes at the Nkrumah Circle. .
