The coup by Captain Ibrahim Traore had sparked scenes of protest and an articulation of anti-French sentiment across Burkina Faso.
Since the events of September 30 and October 1-2, 2022, during which the French embassy in Ouagadougou suffered the wrath of demonstrators, it has not opened its doors to the public.
“The services of the embassy, the Consulate General, the institutes and the French operators who usually receive remain closed until further notice,” the French diplomatic representation in Burkina said.
This measure concerns French interests in Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso.
The embassy said the closure was prompted by the acts of vandalism suffered during Captain Ibrahim Traore’s coup.
Last weekend, demonstrators waving Russian flags set fire to the guardhouse and vandalized the windows and doors of the embassy in Ouagadougou.
At the same time, hundreds of youths attacked the French Institute in Bobo Dioulasso.
Captain Ibrahim Traore, on Monday, condemned these “acts of vandalism” and called for restraint.
The country’s new strongman, who overthrew Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba, however stressed the need to review collaboration between his country and France.
