Sierra Leone is set to launch its inaugural Freetown Fashion Week (FFW) in April 2025, coinciding with the nation’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
The event, themed “Roots and Resilience: Sierra Leone in Fashion,” will showcase the country’s vibrant fashion scene and rich cultural heritage to a global audience.
A collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) and Fashion Industry Insiders (FII), FFW 2025 promises to be a transformative event, providing a platform for both emerging and established Sierra Leonean designers to present their collections. The two-day celebration will feature a diverse program, including runway shows, pop-up exhibitions, live performances, and immersive experiences, blending traditional Sierra Leonean culture with contemporary fashion and creativity.
“We are excited to bring this vision to life,” stated Edmond Kamara, founder of Fashion Industry Insiders. “Sierra Leone has a wealth of talent, and we want to provide the platform for these creative minds to be recognized worldwide. This fashion week will celebrate our heritage and demonstrate how far Sierra Leone has come in its journey of resilience.”
Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Nabeela Tunis, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The Freetown Fashion Week is a remarkable opportunity for the country to shine on the global fashion stage. This event will not only strengthen our creative economy but also contribute to fostering a renewed sense of national pride and unity, celebrating Sierra Leone’s deep cultural roots and its resilient spirit.”
FFW 2025 aims to highlight the creative power of Sierra Leonean designers and artists, bringing international attention to the country’s unique fashion identity. The event will offer an “unforgettable time of creativity, culture, and community,” inviting attendees to celebrate Sierra Leone’s heritage through the power of fashion.
