From 9 to 12 May 2023, Dakar will host the international mission “Agri-Agro Senegal,” initiated by Bpifrance, MEDEF International and Business France, in partnership with the Senegalese Embassy in France.
The mission, which brings together 40 French agri-food companies, will enable them to meet local public and private sector players with a view to developing business and promoting co-investment, according to a press release seen by APA on Monday.
The forty French companies selected will benefit from a rich programme over four days, combining collective and individual time, according to the release, which specifies that they will start the week with a day of meetings on the various issues and opportunities of the agricultural and agribusiness sector in Senegal, then hearings in the presence of Senegalese institutions.
The mission will conclude with visits to the Sandiara (West) Special Economic Zone, the Gade Gui poultry farm and the Van Oers Senegal farm, as well as a final session of face-to-face business meetings.
Senegal is one of the most dynamic economies in the region. Its economic indicators are on the rise again, with positive growth in gross domestic product of 5.6% in 2022 and a forecast of 8.1% in 2023, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Initiatives to support the key agricultural and agri-food sectors are intensifying. The health crisis and the conflict in Ukraine have prompted Dakar to strengthen its food sovereignty policy. Through the Plan Sénégal Emergent (PSE) and the 2024-2029 Food Sovereignty Strategy, the country aims to stimulate economic growth in the agri-food sector, one of the most successful in West Africa, in order to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2029.
