Leading officials of the military establishments of The Gambia and neighbouring Senegal Tuesday began a meeting in Banjul to review the implementation of their agreements on defense and security from a general perspective.
According to a statement from the Gambia Armed Forces, the two-day Joint Military Committee meeting of the two countries’ armed forces is among other things also reviewing some of the major security challenges along the common maritime and land borders to promote and maintain peace and stability.
”The officials will also discuss the modalities on the operationalisation of joint, combined and parallel patrols by the two Armed Forces” the statement said.
The opening ceremony at the Ocean Bay Hotel in the town of Bakau, was attended by Gambian defense minister Retired General Sering Modou Njie, the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Ousman Gomez and the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the Senegalese Armed Forces Major General Fulgence Ndure.
