The Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Bijilo hosted the second edition of the Gambia-Senegal Economic, Trade, and Investment Forum on Thursday, December 19, with numerous political and economic figures present.
This forum is designed as a strategic platform to consolidate bilateral ties and promote mutual economic opportunities between the two neighbours.
In his opening speech, Gambian Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow highlighted the depth of the relationship between the two nations.
“This gathering symbolises enduring friendship, a shared vision, and the unwavering commitment of our two nations to deepen bilateral ties and foster mutual prosperity. United by geographical proximity, history, and culture, we are determined to harness the strength of our partnership to open new opportunities for our citizens,” he stated.
For his part, Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, co-chair of the event, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership in key sectors such as transport infrastructure, agriculture, fishing, hydrocarbons, tourism, and the digital economy.
“We must strengthen our cooperation to better exploit the vast economic potential of our two countries. Senegal prioritizes African integration in its partnerships, and this forum perfectly aligns with that vision,” he affirmed.
The Senegalese Prime Minister’s office shared on its Facebook page that the forum represents an exceptional opportunity to deepen commercial exchanges and reinforce collaboration in strategic areas.
On the sidelines of the forum, the two leaders visited the Senegalese School in Kanifing, an institution that embodies the historical and cultural ties between the two peoples.
According to the Gambian Vice President’s office publication, the visit aimed to assess the school’s operations and the well-being of the students.
