Qatar has contributed $1 million to The Gambia for the organisation of the15th Summit of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) under the theme “Seeking Collective Solutions to Overcome the Challenges Facing Member States.”
Ambassador Al-Kuwari presented the contribution to the Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mamadou Tangara, during a meeting on Thursday, May 2, according to the X account of the Qatari Embassy in Banjul.
Other nations have also offered their support for the success of the Summit of OIC Heads of State and Government, scheduled for 4 and 5 May, 2024 in Banjul.
Morocco has pledged to train up to 3,000 Gambian security personnel for the event, while Senegal has been asked to provide logistical support to its closest neighbour.
The preparatory meeting of senior officials ahead of the Summit began on Tuesday in the Gambian capital.
The OIC, a coalition of countries united by a common Islamic heritage, will tackle a range of challenges at the Banjul Summit. These include the political crises in the Middle East, the fight against poverty, terrorism, climate change and other development issues affecting the global Muslim community, or Ummah.
