Mali and Morocco have solidified their commitment to military cooperation following the successful conclusion of the first meeting of their Joint Military Commission.
The three-day meeting, held in Bamako, focused on key areas such as training, logistics, and security cooperation, culminating in the signing of a memorandum to strengthen their defense partnership.
The Moroccan delegation, headed by Brigadier General Abdelghani Mouhib of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), engaged in discussions with their Malian counterparts, led by Brigadier General Mahamadou Massaoule Samake, Strategic Advisor to the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces. The talks centered on enhancing military personnel training, collaborating on logistics and equipment, and sharing expertise in counterterrorism efforts to address regional security threats.
Major General Oumar Diarra, Chief of General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces, expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, emphasizing its alignment with the political vision of President of the Transition, General Assimi Goita. He urged both delegations to work collaboratively and respectfully for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Brigadier General Mouhib underscored the significance of the initiative, highlighting the longstanding fraternal ties between Morocco and Mali. He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Mali and the Sahel region in navigating current security challenges.
The meeting concluded with the development of a memorandum outlining the framework and guidelines for future military cooperation. This strategic document aims to deepen dialogue and enhance the exchange of expertise between the armed forces of both countries.
