Former Ivorian president, Laurent Gbagbo, Sunday left Abidjan for a ten-day private trip to Europe, his spokesman, Kone Katinan has said in a statement.
Gbagbo’s trip outside the country is the second after his return to Cote d’Ivoire on June 17, 2021.
He was in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from Friday, July 2, 2021 to Thursday, July 8, 2021.
The former head of state was acquitted on March 31, 2021 by the International Criminal Court (ICC) following a trial over crimes against humanity committed during the post-election violence in Cote d’Ivoire from 2010 to 2011.
Gbagbo spent ten years in detention at the Scheveningen prison in The Hague.
His trips are intended to thank supporters during his stay in prison.
