Some 800,000 Bissau Guineans were called to the polls to elect candidates to the 102-member National Assembly.
The exercise will also culminate in the formation of a new cabinet for a four-year lifespan.
Despite a few technical hiccups, Sunday’s exercise took place in an atmosphere of calm and without any major incident across Guinea-Bissau.
Most polling stations closed at 5pm as recommended by the country’s electoral law.
Polling in some areas were extended until 7pm due to delays in some voting places.
Some voters were unable to cast their ballot due to technical errors reported in some polling stations, while others could not find their names on the voters’ roll.
The national and international media are currently waiting for the results.
