Reports indicate that two buses were involved in a head-on collision but it is unclear what might have triggered the accident, which resulted in the burning of one bus, killing all occupants on board.
The buses had more than 50 passengers each on board, thereby leaving people to speculate on the death toll.
Police say the fatal accident happened around 2 am on Friday at a town called Ampoma in the Bono East Region.
The Kintampo Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyawu, told Joy News that preliminary investigations reveal the two buses, one with registration number GT 5694 18 and the other GT 3916 17, each had over 50 passengers on board. One of the buses caught fire after the head-on collision, reports Anas, worsening the effects of the accident.
Other reports alleged that passengers on board one of the buses which was en route from Garu and bound for Kumasi have been burnt beyond recognition when the vehicle went up in flames soon after the crash.
The other bus is said to have run into a ditch, killing some more passengers.
