The Accra District Court has sentenced 21-year-old Mohammed Huzeinu to 100 days in prison for invading the football field during Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025.
According to the report by the Daily Graphic on Tuesday, Huzeinu’s actions disrupted the match and could have financial implications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), as international football governing bodies impose fines of about $10,000 for such security breaches.
The report added that Huzeinu dashed onto the pitch in an apparent attempt to embrace Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo and security officials swiftly intervened and escorted him out of the field.
He was subsequently arrested and held at the Ministries Police Station before facing trial.
The report recalled that the incident was the fifth pitch invasion at a Black Stars match in the past five years, raising growing concerns about stadium security.
However, the Ghanaian authorities hope that Huzeinu’s sentencing will serve as a deterrent to other fans.
