The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has announced that the inflation rate for the month of June 2023 increased to 42.5 per cent from 42.2 per cent in May 2023.
The Government Statistician Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim told journalists on Wednesday in Accra at a briefing on Consumer Press Index that the increase was 0.3 per cent over the figure for May this year.
He said that the inflation rate climbed to a three-month high in June and that it was primarily driven by soaring food prices.
According to him, the prices of essential staple foods, including vegetables and fish, continued to witness significant increases during the period.
Local press reports on Thursday quoted Prof. Annim as saying that food inflation stood at 33.42 with a 2.6 per cent month on month as against the figures for May, while non food inflation for last month was 34.6 per cent
It added that the inflation rate for locally produced items in June was 35,9 per cent, while imported items was 44.5 per cent.
