“Only electors who have cumulatively met the requirements of the law, i.e. hold a voter card (…) and have their names on the voters list, will be allowed to vote,” CEN said in a statement released on Thursday.
The electoral commission’s decision to authorize the additional lists had provoked strong protests from the Social Renewal Party (PRS) and the Movement for Democratic Change (Madem-G15), which described it as “illegal.”
Going further, the PRS in a statement announced that it had filed an appeal with the Supreme tCourt of Guinea-Bissau to prevent the use of an additional voters list.
Some 761,000 voters are called to the polls on Sunday to elect the new 102-member Guinea-Bissau parliament. The latter will be chosen from candidates from 21 political parties.
