“The population has expressed its unequivocal desire for the PAIGC to lead the country,” PAIGC spokesman João Bernardo Vieira told a press conference held Monday in the capital, Bissau.
FREPASNA, one of the 21 parties that took part in the legislative elections, stated through its leader, Baciro Dja, that the results obtained were not very good, given the data collected by its monitoring team. “The result was very bad (…) the party’s objective was to elect” between 29 and 30 deputies in each of the circles, he said.
According to Bacia Dja, this objective has failed not because of a lack of work and investment, but because FREPASNA has made a campaign on the theme of morality, truth and ethics, thus turning its back on all forms of “corruption.”
The 21 parties in the race were running for the votes of more than 761,000 voters for the 102 new members of the National Assembly.
