Fofana and Diane, former Prime Minister and Defence Minister respectively under the erstwhile Alpha Conde regime, were due to appear before the Trial Chamber of the Court for the Suppression of Economic and Financial Crimes (CRIEF) on Monday.
They are charged with “embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment and money laundering.”
At today’s hearing, the CRIEF’s deputy prosecutor, Josephine Loly Tinkiano, said that former Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana was “ill and in a state of perfusion” and asked that the hearing be postponed to a later date.
The judge granted the request and set May 15, 2023 as the new date for the former prime minister to appear in court.
The prosecutor said that Mohamed Diane “has been a victim of violation since the Central House,” where he has been detained for over a year.
The deputy prosecutor, Josephine Loly Tinkiano, said that Alpha Conde’s former defence minister “stumbled and fell (not far from his cell) … it was during this fall that he was injured. He will appear in court on May 8.”
