APA-Conakry (Guinea) The new head of Guinean football’s governing body promises to meet the challenges ahead, and extends a helping hand to all those involved in the sport.
The latent crisis that had dogged the football federation now seems to be over. Following the election of the executive committee on Saturday January 6, 2024, businessman Aboubacar Sampil, also known as Bouba, was elected president with 37 votes out of 65.
His main challengers Almamy Saidou Sylla, who came second, received 28 votes and a former Guinean international, received no votes.
The poll victor spoke of the victory of Guinean soccer and the youth.
Bouba, a former manager of Association Sportive de Kaloum, a club in the first division of the national championship, stresses that he is the president of all active members of the Guinean football fraternity.
“I reaffirm my team’s firm commitment to working with the entire soccer family, without any exclusivity, to initiate and implement development programs and in particular, FIFA’s FORWARD Program in the exclusive interest of our National Association,” Bouba Sampil said.
The Director of FIFA’s Member Associations Division for Africa promises the new FA head that the football world governing body will be by his side to meet the many challenges facing Guinean football.
“We’re going to start working, we’re going to finance you, accompany you, coach you, guide you, because this country has too much potential for us to abandon it,” Gelson Fernandes vowed.
The representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) exhorted the new FA president to work for the development of the game in Guinea.
“It’s not the list that won that will work alone to ensure the success of this mission,” Jean Jacques Marcel Diene emphasised, adding that everyone must pitch in.
On behalf of the head of the junta ransition, the Minister of Youth and Sports congratulated the new committee.
“I encourage you to place integrity, fairness and passion at the heart of every decision you make. I pledge to work with you, to support your initiatives, to contribute to the growth and development of Guinean soccer,” Lansana Bea Diallo said.
