Dismissed on November 21, 2023, the former Minister of Health and Public Hygiene spent a week in police custody at the Direction Centrale des Investigations de la Gendarmerie Nationale (DCIJ-GN).
At the Direction des Investigations, Dr. Mamadou Pethe Diallo, a former UN diplomat, was questioned at length on allegations of “corruption, illicit enrichment, concussion to the prejudice of the state.”
On Wednesday November 29, the former minister was referred to the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offences (CRIEF), where he will be heard by investigating judges on the charges against him.
After a lengthy hearing, Mr. Diallo was charged with alleged “misappropriation of public funds, illicit enrichment, money laundering, corruption, concussion and complicity.”
However, the CRIEF decided to place him under judicial supervision.
This is the second minister of the post-coup Guinea to be brought before the CRIEF.
The first was the former Minister of Infrastructures and Public Works, Yaya Sow.
In early January, Sow was accused of “alleged corruption of public officials, illegal taking of interest, violation of procurement rules and control of public contracts.”
This followed an explosive audio recording made by senior members of his department about the sharing of contracts by mutual agreement.
After a year of legal proceedings, the CRIEF finally found him not guilty of the charges in early November.
