APA – N’Djamena (Chad) – Shortly before the results were announced, Masra claimed victory and accused the Deby camp of rigging the vote.
After the National Electoral Management Agency (ANGE) announced his victory in the first round early on Thursday evening, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno sent a message out to Chadians via his Facebook account.
The president-elect declared that his “great victory” made him “the president of all Chadians,” according to the provisional results of the 6 May elections.
Mahamat claimed he was “the president of those who voted for me, but also of those who voted differently.”
In his message, which lasted just over two minutes, the President-elect expressed a “special thought for the unsuccessful candidates” and praised their constructive contribution to this election.
He also expressed his “infinite gratitude” to the millions of voters who “believed in his project” and assured them that he would do his utmost to fulfil his “commitments.”
According to ANGE, provisional results put the candidate for a united Chad in the lead with 61.03 percent of the vote, while his main rival, Succes Masra, received 18.53 percent.
Shortly before the results were announced, Masra claimed victory, accusing the Deby camp of rigging the vote, which marks the end of a three-year transition following the death of Field Marshal Idriss Deby Itno in April 2021.
