The Indian government has donated five fire trucks to the government in Monrovia in a bid to help improve the work of the Liberia National Fire Service, a senior official of the LNFS confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking Thursday, at Ministry of Information regular press conference, the Director of the LNFS, Alex Dixon, said the donation was made possible through the office of President George M. Weah.
Dixon has at the same time extended his appreciation to the Indian government for the donation to the LNFS.
He likened the LNFS to someone claiming they can fight, but always go to the war front without gun, adding that this is what the fire service has been going through over the years.
“Since 1948 it is the first time in the history of Liberia for the LNFS to have six fire trucks within two years …and the trucks will help save lives and properties” he said.
According to Dixon, in 2018 there were 200 fire outbreaks, and in 2019 there was 100 less but which nonetheless resulted to the loss of millions of dollars worth of properties and human lives.
“It has caught the attention of the LNFS that more Liberians do not respect them as the first responder to fire incidents, not knowing that the LNFS started with a single truck,” Dixon indicated.
Meanwhile, Dixon has disclosed that LNFS is coming up with a robust inspection to ensure every home has a fire extinguisher.
