APA-Rabat (Morocco) Israel recognises Moroccan sovereignty over the enclave of Western Sahara and is considering opening a consulate in Dakhla.
King Mohammed VI has received a letter from the Prime Minister of Israel, Benyamin Netanyahu, informing the monarch of his country’s decision to “recognise Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara,” the Royal Cabinet confirmed in a release.
In this regard, the Israeli Prime Minister indicated that his country’s position “will be reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government,” the statement added.
He also stressed that the decision “will be communicated to the United Nations, to regional and international organisations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Israel is “positively considering the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla” to demonstrate this position in practical terms.
