As Burkina Faso recently withdrew from ECOWAS, Senegal’s ambassador concludes his mission in Ouagadougou, praising the “exceptional” relations between the two countries despite regional tensions.
Senegal’s ambassador to Burkina Faso, Mbaba Coura Ndiaye, was received on Tuesday in a farewell audience by Burkinabe Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré.
After four years of diplomatic service in Ouagadougou, the Senegalese diplomat hailed the “excellent bilateral relations” between the two countries. “I have never felt so comfortable as in this country,” he said, emphasizing the hospitality of the Burkinabe people.
This meeting comes amidst a particular diplomatic context, marked by Burkina Faso’s recent withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), alongside Mali and Niger. Senegal remains a
member of the organization.
Despite these regional tensions, Ambassador Ndiaye, who has been in office since February 2021, reaffirmed the support of Senegalese authorities for Burkina Faso. He particularly praised the continuous assistance provided by Burkinabe diplomatic services throughout his tenure.
