The ship, which had been held offshore following concerns about its cargo, was deemed safe for entry.
The Zimrida, initially carrying the ammonium nitrate cargo on the vessel RUBY, which sustained damage during a storm, transferred the shipment to its current vessel in Great Yarmouth Port, UK.
Concerns were raised regarding the safety of the cargo, leading to the ship being held in outer anchorage. However, after a comprehensive assessment involving various government agencies, including the Ministry of Transport, it was determined that the Zimrida and its cargo posed no risk to port facilities or the public.
The authorities emphasized that ammonium nitrate is a commonly used agricultural input and that the shipment complied with all necessary safety regulations. To further alleviate public concerns, a media visit to the ship has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 7th, 2025.
Following its stop in Abidjan, the Zimrida will continue its journey to Angola and Tanzania to deliver the remaining portion of its cargo.
