Ivorian-born Moussa Sangare was elected on Thursday in Abidjan, President of the Federation of Air Traffic Controllers Associations (FACAA), which is a subsidiary of the Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).
His election was held at the end of the 4th Ordinary General Assembly of the Federation of Air Traffic Controller Associations (FACAA) which took place from 25 to 27 May 2021 in Abidjan.
The new president of the FACAA is elected in a context marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and his intention is to “revitalize the bodies of this federation.”
He said he wanted to “put a particular emphasis on the training of members” in order to be able to have a safe sky, knowing that “it is an adventure which will not be easy.”
The repositioning of planes, he says, will be done with new technologies, which should be well mastered by the agents. This is why training is crucial for convincing results.
Mr. Louis Bakienon, Director of Air Navigation Operations, representing the Director General of ASECNA, Mohamed Moussa, welcomed these meetings, which enabled a diagnosis of the ecosystem and aviation safety.
During the session, he explained the professions of the future in the sector, in particular innovative professions, satellite technology, which will soon take shape within ASECNA.
ASECNA, at the height of the Covid-19 health crisis, experienced a decline in its monthly activities, which was 20 percent lower than the normal in May 2020.
“We ended 2020 with a 53 percent decline in our operating revenues and the first quarter of 2021 was down 52 percent from 2020,” Bakienon said, insisting the agency had shown resilience by maintaining the quality of services to air users.
Today, the agency has successfully implemented the innovative SBAS technology, whose services increase the positioning performance provided by the existing constellations, such as GPS or GALILEO.
Moussa Sangare succeeds Alain Zida at the head of the organization.
