Nairobi says it has been adversely affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine since February 24, 2022.
After the Senegalese head of state, Macky Sall, also current chair of the African Union, and Umaro Sissoco Embalo, head of state of Guinea-Bissau, and current chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), their Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto is calling for an end to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Ruto expressed his wish to see this war end as soon as possible.
“Kenya supports an early resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. As members of the global community, we have been adversely affected by the conflict. The two countries have a wide range of investment links in agriculture, energy and ICT,” the Kenyan leade wrote.
Several countries are threatened by famine because of the conflict.
The two warring sides are the world’s largest exporters of wheat.
The blockage of the delivery of grain had caused the price of wheat to soar worldwide until an agreement was reached under the auspices of the United Nations.
The invasion of Ukraine is a major military campaign by air, sea and land, launched on February 24, 2022 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The attacks originated from Russia, Belarus and the Ukrainian territories occupied by the Russians since the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
According to the latest estimates, at least 38,000 people have lost their lives since the conflict began.
There are also 53,616 people wounded, about 14 million displaced and at least 140,000 buildings destroyed.
The material damage is estimated at about $350 billion.
