The Kenyan leader arrived in Kigali early on Monday and headed immediately to Gabiro in the northeast, where he held face-to-face talks with his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame on the sidelines of a national leadership retreat.
During the visit, Mr Kenyatta stressed that Rwandans and Kenyans are brothers and sisters, bound to the hip and as leaders their role is to continue to see how such ties can be deepened.
“We have challenges, but I am convinced that with goodwill, and good intentions, which is what we have for our people, we will resolve even those challenges that are ahead of us,” the Kenyan leader said.
In a state house statement issued earlier, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta told participants at the National Leadership retreat that he was there to see how it works.
“I am impressed and want to replicate it [in Kenya],” the statement quoted Kenyatta as saying.
The Rwanda 2019 annual retreat which brings together senior leaders from central government, local government, parastatals and the private sector will run through Tuesday to discuss various issues of national development.
Among other things, leaders will reflect on Rwanda’s development trajectory, deliberate on how to improve the quality of education and health, efforts to increase agricultural productivity for growth, and ways to boosting exports growth and investments.
