APA-Algiers (Algeria) This US travel advise in relation to Algeria follows those issued by the Canadian authorities earlier this year.
The United States has issued a security alert, advising its citizens living in or visiting Algeria not to travel to Tindouf or the surrounding areas due to the increased risk of kidnapping.
The warning, relayed by the State Department, recommends that US citizens refrain from all travel to the region until mid-March. They are urged to remain vigilant and to follow the recommendations of security plans.
U.S. citizens should have up-to-date travel documents, including a valid U.S. passport, and develop emergency evacuation plans.
These recommendations follow those issued by Canada earlier this year, urging its citizens travelling to Algeria to
“exercise extreme caution in view of the terrorist threat and the risk of kidnapping.”
