Lesotho’s parliamentarians are set to temporarily cut their Christmas recess on Thursday as they return to work to hear United Nations secretary-general António Guterres deliver a speech in Maseru, state media reported on Monday.
According to Lesotho News Agency (LENA), Guterres is scheduled to address a joint sitting of members of the National Assembly and senators on the same day.
Quoting communication sent out by Clerk to the National Assembly, Fine Maema, LENA said the gathering would take place at the New Parliament Building in Maseru.
Guterres is expected to visit both South Africa and Lesotho in coming days for discussions encompassing global and regional issues, with a particular emphasis on Pretoria’s Presidency of the G20.
His spokesperson has confirmed the upcoming itinerary in the region, highlighting the importance of the visit in fostering dialogue and cooperation on critical international matters.
