Lesotho will hold general elections on October 7, the country’s electoral commission chief Mpaiphele Maqutu said in a notice late Wednesday.
According to Maqutu, final results of the election would be published the following day.
The leader of the party with the majority in the 120-seat parliament is elected as prime minister.
The announcement of the election date comes a week after King Letsie III dissolved parliament in line with procedures to prepare for new polls.
The southern African kingdom of just over two million people has been rocked by political instability since independence in 1966, a situation that has seen several coups and elections over the years.
The country has held three elections between 2012 and 2017 that resulted in fractious coalitions and turbulence.
No prime minister has served out a full five-year term over the past decade, with the kingdom having had two premiers since the last polls in 2017.
