In a statement to the Swiss newspaper Tribune de Genève, Al-Abbar called for the appointment of a new UN special envoy and the mobilization of a popular movement to reform institutions and pave the way for fair elections.
The recent tensions surrounding the Central Bank of Libya have underscored the urgent need for progress. Al-Abbar argued that the UN must act swiftly to appoint a new special envoy to replace the recently resigned Abdoulaye Bathily. She emphasized the importance of this role in accelerating the political process and creating a conducive environment for elections.
In addition to the appointment of a new special envoy, Al-Abbar proposed the formation of a large-scale popular movement to dismantle existing institutions and establish a military council. She suggested that the Supreme Judicial Council could play a crucial role in guiding the country towards fair elections.
Al-Abbar expressed her support for the 5+5 Committee and urged its rapid activation to secure the country and unify the military institution. She emphasized the importance of protecting Libya’s institutions and borders and preventing the fragmentation of Libyan unity.
The proposed conference in Geneva would serve as a platform for Libyan civil society, economic, political, and academic sectors to come together and discuss strategies for revitalizing the political process. Al-Abbar stressed that this initiative is independent of any external influence and aims to unite the Libyan people and preserve their will.
