Malawi will this week showcase it energy and mining projects to Canadian investors during an online business forum scheduled for Thursday.
The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) said the virtual business forum is aimed at promoting renewable energy and mining business opportunities in the southern African country to Canadian investors.
“This forum is a perfect platform to discuss the opportunities in energy as well as mining sectors,” MITC spokesperson Deliby Chimbalu said in a statement on Tuesday.
She noted that the forum comes at a time Malawi is encouraging more investments in the energy sector as a way of meeting the current high demand for electricity.
Like most of her southern African neighbours, Malawi faces an acute shortage of electricity, with most households relying on biomass for their heating and lighting needs.
