APA – Bamako (Mali) The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) carried out three major operations against the militants during the course of April.
In Mali, the army continued to carry out successful raids against the militants the aim of which was to neutralise their leaders and dismantle armed groups in various regions of the country.
The first operation, carried out on 19 April, was a special precision raid aimed at neutralising Alkalifa Sawri, a dreaded fugitive responsible for several attacks against FAMa personnel and civilians along the Timbuktu-Goundam road, two towns in central Mali just over 80 kilometres apart.
Long sought by the Malian authorities, Sawri was identified thanks to “valuable intelligence,” according to the General Staff.
The operation took place between Douetiré and Acharane, two towns in the Timbuktu region.
The second FAMa operation carried out on 12 April led to the neutralisation of Ali Sekou alias Diouraydi, a militant leader operating in the Dogo sector of the Youwarou region.
Diouraydi, who was the deputy of Hassane Alias Cheik Oumar, was responsible for numerous acts of violence against the local population and the planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The operation took place near Laounia, a hamlet in the Mopti region.
Finally, on 15 April, the FAMa launched a major offensive in the Bana and Kabio (Sofara) sectors of the Djenné circle, also in the Mopti region. Combining artillery fire with the deployment of ground and air forces, the operation succeeded in flushing out and neutralising a major militant group.
In addition, materials and equipment abandoned by the fleeing insurgents were recovered.
The three operations demonstrate the commitment of the FAMa to the fight against terrorism and to the security of the Malian people, the authorities assure the Malian nation.
According to them the raids also bear witness to the fact that, despite the efforts insurgent groups continue to operate and carry out deadly attacks.
