The decision follows the suspension of other foreign media outlets, including France 24 and Radio France Internationale (RFI), by the Malian authorities.
The High Authority for Communication (HAC) criticized TV5 Monde for broadcasting a report about drone strikes that killed at least 15 civilians without including the Malian army’s official version of events. The HAC argued that this omission constituted a lack of rigor and justified the suspension.
TV5 Monde expressed regret over the situation and stated that it had not received the official version from the Malian army despite repeated requests. The channel added that it had broadcast the Malian army’s version in a subsequent news bulletin.
This suspension is part of a broader trend of restrictions on international media in Mali, which has increasingly distanced itself from France and its European partners since a coup d’état in 2020.
