Six suspected members of a terrorist network involved in the attacks of September 17 in Bamako have been arrested by the Malian army.
The swoop on the suspects was made possible thanks to the effective coordination of
specialised units and the active collaboration of the population, according to an official statement seen by APA.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces specified that the suspects apprehended would have facilitated the arrival and installation of the terrorist commandos responsible for the attacks.
They would also have carried out reconnaissance missions on the targets and provided logistical support to the armed groups.
On September 17, a commando of the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM), affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, carried out a double attack in Bamako. The targets included the Faladie gendarmerie
school, on the outskirts of the capital, and Modibo Keita International Airport. These attacks for which the jihadist
coalition claimed responsibility, caused several human losses, particularly among gendarme students.
In response, the authorities have reinforced security measures in and around the Malian capital.
