“Ah, I have just learned that the Prime Minister has been dismissed from his duties! Finally, the Nile River has arrived in Cairo!” Maiga reacted on Wednesday night, just hours after his removal and that of his government by General Goita, the transition’s leader.
The former Prime Minister expressed his belief that he has been targeted by a “political plot.” He wrote, “Since 2023, certain institutions within the Transition have organized themselves to target me,” denouncing what he described as maneuvers aimed at “weakening him politically.”
Maiga outlined several strategies he perceives as attempts to destabilize him, including the clandestine creation of 100 new political parties, secret meetings with “supporters of the old order,” and orchestrated dissent within the M5-RFP coalition.
“Why and for whose benefit?” he questioned, amplifying his accusations against what he claims is a plot against him. “Everything was orchestrated to eliminate me politically,” he asserted.
Despite his dismissal, Choguel Maiga remains defiant. “We will always remain in the service of eternal Mali! Everything else is temporary!” he declared, showing his interest in maintaining a relevant role in Mali’s political landscape.
His departure follows a political meeting of the M5-RFP on November 16, during which he had already indicated internal tensions.
Choguel Maiga was appointed Prime Minister in June 2021 after the military’s “rectification” of the transition, which occurred following the overthrow of Ibrahim Boubacar Keita (IBK) nine months earlier, leading to the installation of the interim leaders, Bah Ndaw and Moctar Ouane.
