The President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and current Chairman of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, on Monday afternoon received a delegation from British Petroleum (BP) at the Presidential Palace.
BP is an oil company with the objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This transition includes efforts to reduce emissions and invest in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies.
The discussions focused on the relations between BP and Mauritania, with a particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation between Mauritania and Senegal.
The objective is to deepen and broaden the bilateral partnership, particularly in the strategic sectors of energy and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Minister in charge of the Mauritanian President’s Office, Nani Ould Chrougha, the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mohamed Ould Khaled and the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines of Senegal, Birame Souleye Diop.
The BP delegation included Executive Vice President for Production and Operations, Gordon Birrell, Vice President for Mauritania and Senegal, Dave Campbell, and Vice President for Mauritania, Mohamed Limam.
