The Moroccan royal navy has rescued 194 illegal migrants of the coast of Guerguerate.
On August 5, in waters under national jurisdiction in the south of the kingdom, a Royal Navy offshore patrol boat intercepted a pirogue in distress, according to a military source quoted by the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP).
The rescued immigrants, who had set sail from a country in the south of the kingdom, were transferred and taken aboard the royal navy unit to be transported to the port of Dakhla, the source added, noting that among the immigrants were one woman, five bodies and 11 candidates in a critical state of health.
The rescued migrants, all Senegalese, received first aid on board the Royal Navy unit before being safely returned to the port of Dakhla on August 6, 2023.
They were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the military source said.
Five bodies and 11 candidates in critical health condition were all evacuated to Hassan II Hospital in Dakhla, the source added.
