This was emphasized by Moroccan Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, at the opening of the 44th edition of the “Islamic Cultural Days” in Dakar. He highlighted the strong spiritual ties between Senegal and Morocco, fostered by the widespread influence of the Tijan Sufi order in West Africa.
The minister underscored the importance of these gatherings, which bring together scholars and disciples of the Tariqa to discuss religious matters and foster closer ties within the brotherhood. He also emphasized the significance of the mausoleum of Sheikh Sidi Ahmed Tijani in Fez, a revered pilgrimage site for Tijani followers worldwide.
In his address, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, the general caliph of the Tidianes, reiterated the commitment of Rabat and Dakar to strengthening South-South cooperation. He also emphasized the crucial role of the Commandery of the Believers in preserving religious values and fostering spiritual ties across the continent.
The “Islamic Cultural Days,” initiated in 1981, aim to enhance unity and understanding among Tijani followers, promoting peace, tolerance, and coexistence among different communities.
The event was attended by high-level officials from both countries, including Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Senegalese Interior Minister Jean Baptiste Tine, and Moroccan Ambassador to Senegal Hassan Naciri.
