On Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco and the French Development Agency (AFD) signed two financing agreements for a total of 150 million euros, according to a press release from the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The funding will go towards two key programmes: one to support the widespread introduction of compulsory health insurance (AMO) and another to support the government’s 2023-2026 gender equality plan.
The first agreement, worth 100 million euros, supports the implementation of universal social protection, a key project for the kingdom.
It focuses on three areas: improving the AMO governance to ensure more efficient management, strengthening equity by integrating a gender-sensitive approach, and optimising spending to ensure the sustainability of the system.
This financing reflects the shared commitment of Morocco and AFD to support strategic and inclusive reforms to strengthen social safety nets and promote gender equality.
