The security, economic and political ties between Morocco and Mauritania are increasingly strengthened with the
establishment of the joint commission between the two countries. This rapprochement will culminate in a plan to interconnect the two neighbours’ drinking water supplies.
Morocco’s equipment and water minister, Nizar Baraka, met on Wednesday in Kuwait with the Mauritanian water and sanitation minister, Amel Bent Maouloud, on the sidelines of her participation in the High-Level Forum on Financing Water Development for the MENA Region. This meeting was an opportunity to examine ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the kingdom and Mauritania in the field of seawater desalination, water interconnection between basins and joint cooperation to build mobile seawater desalination plants.
Led by Mr. Baraka, the Moroccan delegation taking part in the High-Level Forum on Financing Water Development for the MENA Region includes the Director General of Hydraulic Engineering at the Ministry, Abdelaziz Zerouali, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Kuwait, Ali Benaissa.
Initiated by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), in partnership with the World Bank, this Forum focuses on improving water management, promoting water-saving technologies, releasing financing for essential projects, as well as reviewing related policies and regulations.
