Morocco’s Cold Weather Response Plan targets an estimated total population of nearly 872,778, grouped into 169,134 households.
The Moroccan Ministry of Interior, in coordination with other government agencies and stakeholders, has launched an emergency response plan to help citizens facing harsh winter conditions in rural parts of the country. In execution of the high royal instructions, a comprehensive mobilization of all logistical and human resources to
provide support and assistance to citizens facing the cold wave that several regions of the Kingdom are experiencing.
The initiative aims to help approximately 872,778 people from 169,134 households in 2,014 villages spread across 241 municipalities in 28 provinces. Local authorities have been tasked with closely monitoring the situation, coordinating response efforts, and implementing proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the weather on vulnerable communities, according to local media.
To ensure an effective response, the ministry has activated a command and alert center. Particular attention is paid to residents of areas previously affected by earthquakes and floods.
The interior ministry also reaffirms the overall mobilisation of all relevant services and authorities, in execution of the high instructions of King Mohammed VI, to alleviate the burden on the population and provide them with all forms of support and assistance necessary to cope with possible damage that may be caused by bad weather conditions, while mobilising all necessary means and resources to ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
These measures are part of a comprehensive national plan for the 2024-2025 winter season, which has been expanded to include 185 additional villages.
