The ochre city of Marrakech will host the first edition of the International Storytelling Festival from February 12 to 20.
More than forty storytellers from the five continents are expected to participate in this event, the organisers said in a statement released Thursday.
“A week-long series of events respecting and building on a storytelling tradition as old as the Red City itself. The guest of honour will be Haj Ahmed Ezzarghani, the most revered master storyteller of the Marrakech tradition,” the same source said.
The festival is intended to be multilingual. Indeed, the programme includes stories in English as well as in many other languages, including French, Darija and Amazigh, it is reported.
The highlight of the festival will be on Friday February 18 with a procession from the Al Muniya Centre to Jamaa El Fnaa Square. Throughout the afternoon, five storytelling circles will operate simultaneously, each supervised by one of Marrakech’s five surviving master storytellers, according to the organisers.
