The African Economic Symposium (AES) is the Policy Centre for the New South’s third flagship event, following the annual conference on peace and security in Africa and Atlantic Dialogues.
The Moroccan think tank, Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), is organising the 2nd edition of the African Economic Symposium on 11 and12 July in Rabat, under the theme “Fostering Africa’s economic transformation through innovative financing.”
This event, which will be attended by senior officials from international institutions, aims to explore the new challenges of macroeconomic management and focus on promoting Africa’s economic transformation, says the PCNS in a press statement.
“The African Economic Symposium (AES) aspires to become an annual continental gathering of economists, policy-makers and academics on
the African economy, with a particular focus on the challenges of macroeconomic stability and the structural issues influencing Africa’s economic development,” the statement said quoring PCNS Executive Chairman Karim El Aynaoui.
The Symposium will be in two distinct parts. The first part will explore the new challenges of macroeconomic management, in particular the effectiveness of monetary policy in curbing inflation, while sustaining economic growth, the implications of monetary tightening for financial stability, and the role of new fiscal strategies in ensuring fiscal discipline and debt sustainability.
In the second part, the Symposium will focus on promoting Africa’s economic transformation through innovative financing mechanisms.
Discussions will focus on financing mechanisms for the ecological transition, the social aspects of development financing, policy actions to harness domestic financial potential, and the role of the international financial community in bridging financing gaps and meeting the challenges of debt restructuring.
The ESA will also provide an opportunity to present the annual report on the African economy, which maps African economic dynamics at different scales, the statement added.
