Morocco has been unanimously selected to host the 58th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, scheduled for March 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday during the ongoing experts’ session in Addis Ababa (March 12 – 18) as part of the 57th ECA session and ministerial conference.
Morocco’s selection faced no opposition, highlighting the recognition of its central role in Africa’s economic development and its proven expertise in organizing major international events.
The decision to entrust Morocco with this conference reflects renewed confidence from the African and international communities in the country’s economic leadership and its ability to foster intra-African cooperation. It aligns with broader efforts to enhance regional synergies to address the continent’s economic and financial challenges.
The 58th session, set to take place in Morocco in 2026 with be theme: “Growth Through Innovation: Harnessing Data and Cutting-Edge
Technologies for Africa’s Economic Transformation.”
The focus will be on showcasing the pivotal role of innovation and digitalization in modernizing African economies and promoting sustainable, inclusive growth.
By hosting this event, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to the continent’s economic and social progress, leveraging its expertise, infrastructure, and experience in managing large-scale international gatherings.
This initiative builds on the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to promote dynamic, inclusive economic governance aligned with Africa’s ambitions for structural transformation and enhanced financial resilience.
Additionally, on Wednesday, Morocco was unanimously elected to preside
over the 57th ECA session and the Conference of African Ministers of
Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.
This designation underscores the trust of member states in Morocco’s leadership and its steadfast dedication to supporting mechanisms for cooperation and economic integration across Africa.
