The Moroccan government is preparing to submit a draft law reforming the criminal procedure code to parliament after the Eid al-Adha.
This announcement was made by the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, who also noted that the draft must be approved by the council of government and the Justice Committee of the Chamber of Representatives.
This reform is part of a vast program to modernize the Moroccan judicial system, which also includes the civil procedure code, family law, the penal code and the regulation of the legal profession.
The minister called on the MPs to speed up their work in order to finalize these laws. He stressed the importance of their action, saying that citizens will remember their decisions for sixty years before any future changes are made.
The long-awaited reform of the penal code will introduce significant changes, including revised penalties, a new perspective on certain crimes and contemporary legislation.
The latter will be adapted to current realities, particularly in the areas of privacy and personal data processing.
The minister stressed that the aim is to achieve a more efficient and fair justice system, capable of meeting current and future challenges, including the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the justice system.
