The Director General of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, on Tuesday in Rabat, received Christopher Wray, Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who is on a working visit at the head of a high-level delegation, a statement from the DGST said.
The working visit is the second of its kind under the joint action program between the two parties, after a first visit by the Director General of National Security and Surveillance of the Territory in the United States in June 2022, during which he met with the director of U.S. intelligence services, the president of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the statement added.
“This new meeting was an opportunity for both parties to review the bilateral cooperation relations distinguished between, on the one hand, the Directorate General of National Security and the Directorate General of Surveillance of the territory, and, on the other hand, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, and exchange about emerging threats and security challenges relating to various phenomena related to transnational crime,” it said.
During the talks, the two sides discussed mechanisms to combat the movement of fighters of terrorist organisations through border crossings, and promote the exchange of information on these fighters, in addition to consolidating operational cooperation in the fight against threats related to chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and the expansion of the scope of bilateral collaboration distinguished in the field of counter-terrorism to include the Sahel-Saharan area.
This new visit reflects the level of advanced bilateral cooperation between the Moroccan security services and law enforcement agencies in the United States, as an extension of the deep strategic cooperation linking the two countries in several areas, the statement said.
It added that this collaboration stems from a common commitment to strengthen and develop this partnership in the service of security and regional and international stability.
