APA-Marrakech (Morocco) – The Morocco-US Venture Capital Forum and the GITEX Africa Digital Summit are opportunities for Morocco to demonstrate its key role as a technology hub in Africa.
“Morocco is making rapid progress in a variety of sectors and is becoming a technology leader in Africa,” said the US Ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, speaking at the Morocco-US Venture Capital Forum in Marrakech.
Mr. Talwar emphasised that, thanks to the vision and leadership of King Mohammed VI, the kingdom is in the midst of a dynamic process. In 2022, Moroccan start-ups raised $119 million in venture capital, demonstrating their ability to attract investment for innovative solutions to local and regional challenges.
He added that this success is due to the proactive policies of the Moroccan government, with its crucial support through policies, funding and regulatory reforms, recognising the importance of startups for economic growth and job creation.
Moroccan technology start-ups are making their mark in fields such as agri-tech, climate-tech, health-tech, fintech and deep-tech, paving the way for major technological advances.
The Morocco-US Venture Capital Forum and the GITEX Africa Digital Summit are opportunities for Morocco to showcase its key role as a technology hub in Africa, reinforcing its image on the global technology stage.
Organised by the US Embassy in Morocco in partnership with Prosper Africa, the forum showcases 25 of Morocco’s most promising start-ups.
The event, which runs until 28 May, aims to explore the Moroccan startup ecosystem and connect American and African investors with these startups and their innovative founders. It aligns with the GITEX Africa Digital Summit, which is expected to attract more than 35,000 visitors from across Africa and beyond, including 1,200 startups and companies.
