For the first time, the Wingfoil Racing World Cup will take place in Morocco, specifically in Dakhla, from 19 to 23 March 2025.
The choice of the Moroccan city of Dakhla to host the world surfing competition, underscores Morocco’s growing prominence in international sports circuits, particularly in water sports.
It also highlights the strategy to promote Dakhla as a premier sports and tourism destination.
The announcement came from the International Wing Sports Association (IWSA), which noted that this inaugural event will be followed by competitions in Switzerland, Turkey, China, and Brazil.
International athletes are expected to gather at the Dakhla lagoon, renowned for its ideal weather conditions—featuring consistent winds and calm waters—perfectly suited to this kitesurf-derived sport.
The event is being organised by Soufiane Hamaini, a Moroccan kitesurfing pioneer on the global stage.
Hamaini made history as the first athlete from the Arab world to compete in a kitesurfing world championship in 2000, where he also clinched a world title.
“We are honoured to host the opening of the 2025 Wingfoil Racing World Cup series in Dakhla. This event not only showcases the incredible potential of our location but also aligns with our vision of sustainability, inclusion, and raising sports awareness in Morocco. We look forward to welcoming athletes and spectators,” he told the specialised outlet *Sail World*.
